Referendum in Azerbaijan: 26 polling stations set up in penitentiary facilities

Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. Azerbaijan’s Penitentiary Service held Wednesday a seminar on preparations for the upcoming referendum in the country.

 

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev earlier signed an order to hold a referendum on making amendments to the country’s Constitution.

 

Present at the seminar were the Penitentiary Service’s leadership, the secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Arifa Mukhtarova, the head of the CEC media and PR department, Shahin Asadli as well as chiefs of detention and correctional facilities.

 

Chief of the Penitentiary Service Jeyhun Hasanov said the subordinate bodies confirmed action plan on referendum. “

 

26 polling stations were set up in 14 constituencies for penitentiary facilities, he said, noting that Penitentiary Service’s subordinate bodies will ensure transparency of voting.

 

Arifa Mukhtarova noted that the prisoners also have right to vote. She gave detailed information on organization of the referendum and voting procedure.
