Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloghlu – APA. The proposed amendments to Azerbaijan’s Constitution are aimed at improving the governance in the country, Shahin Aliyev, head of Department of Legislation and Legal Expertise of Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration.
“The question is not granting additional powers to Azerbaijan’s president. Vice-presidents do not bring additional powers. The question is improving the governance,” Aliyev said at a press conference in Baku Sept. 21.
The Venice Commission and the Council of Europe haven’t contacted the Azerbaijani in connection with the proposed amendments, he added.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to hold a referendum on amending the country’s Constitution on September 26, 2016.
