Baku. Farid Mirzayev - APA. Preparations for the Sept. 26 referendum in Azerbaijan have been conducted at a high level, Deputy Chairman of Council of Federation of the Russian Federal Assembly Ilyas Umakhanov, who is heading an observer mission of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), told reporters in Baku.
All conditions have been created for citizens to exercise their right to vote, noted Umakhanov.
He added that the amendments put up for referendum are aimed at strengthening the democratic foundations.
“We have thoroughly discussed this issue with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev yesterday,” said Umakhanov. “The former Soviet republics are demonstrating a new form of democracy development. Azerbaijan’s president is a leader in this regard.”
The voting in referendum on making amendments to Azerbaijan’s Constitution kicked off at 8:00 am local time on Sept.26.
The voting will wrap up at 19:00 pm.
