Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. MPs don’t work in an administrative body. MPs are representatives of the people and should be responsible to the public. MPs are either awarded or punished by people, Azerbaijani MP Zahid Oruj told APA on June 29.
The MP was commenting on the announcement by the parliament’s disciplinary commission of a verbal reprimand to him. Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Ogtay Asadov ordered the parliament’s disciplinary commission to take an appropriate action in relation to MP Zahid Oruj as a verbal duel erupted between them at the plenary session of parliament on June 24.
“A reprimand is not issued only through an official directive. It’s impossible to turn it into one of the pages of our political biography,” said the MP.
He mentioned that at a time when national leader Heydar Aliyev was the speaker of the parliament, all necessary opportunities were created to all opposite sides in the parliament to express their positions.
“He didn’t build a domestic court for the severe and harsh statements by MPs. I consider MP’s right to speak as fundamental as teacher’s right to teach and doctor’s right to treat,” said the MP.
Zahid Oruj refused to answer questions related to this incident, noting that he wants this issue to lose its political essence.
