Azerbaijani president puts forward military service deferment initiative for masterâ€™s and doctoral degree holders

The MP said that the bill submitted to the committee by President Ilham Aliyev proposes amendments the law â€œOn military duty and military serviceâ€ in order to ensure continuity of education and training of qualified personnel. Â

According to the bill, article #21.1.4 of the valid law envisages military service deferment not only for bachelorâ€™s degree holders, but also for master's and a doctoral degree holders, he said.

â€œThe solution of this issue that is one of fundamental problems of science and education in Azerbaijan is part of a new security policy of the president. The army should comprise professionals, and scholars should be trained to fight in science trenches. The average age of our scientists was above 55. Finally, the head of state took a significant step,â€ the MP said.

He added that the parliament will consider the bill next week. Â
