Azerbaijani CEC announces number of observers registered for upcoming referendum

Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloghlu – APA. Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has registered a total of 161 observers on the eve of the upcoming referendum so far, CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov told reporters on Wednesday.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to hold a referendum on making amendments to the country’s Constitution on September 26, 2016.

Of the 161 registered observers, 82 are members of the New Azerbaijan campaign group and 29 of the Civil Society campaign group, while 42 others have registered on personal initiative. There are also six observers representing the CIS Parliamentary Assembly.

7,503 observers are registered in constituencies.

Of them, 903 are members of political parties, 2,102 of the New Azerbaijan campaign group, 207 of the Civil Society campaign group, and 1,034 of the Municipality campaign group.
