ATUC and 24 NGOs created initiative group in connection with referendum

Baku. Farid Mirzayev – APA. Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederations (ATUC) and 24 NGOs have today held a meeting of initiators to create an initiative group in connection with the referendum to be held on September 26.

APA reports that 401 representatives of 4,052 primary initiators attended the meeting. The initiative group was created and called "Civil Society".

Under the requirements of the Election Code, 25 authorized representatives of the initiative group and an authorized representative for financial issues were appointed. Besides, a decision was passed on submitting a notice to the Central Election for registration of the “Civil Society” initiative group.

On July 18, Azerbaijan’s PresidentIlham Aliyev signed an order on submitting the draft Referendum Act “On making amendments to the Constitution of Azerbaijan” to the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court approved the draft Referendum Act at a plenary session. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on holding a referendum on amendments to the country’s Constitution on September 26, 2016. Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission is to hold the referendum on the mentioned date.
