Today, August 26, is celebrated in Azerbaijan as Lachin City Day, APA reports.
Lachin city, together with Zabukh and Sus villages, came under Azerbaijan’s control on August 26, 2022.
On July 31, 2022, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the establishment of City Days for the liberated territories. According to the decree, August 26 was declared Lachin City Day. The day is celebrated with festive events.
On August 26, 2023, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the “Lachin City Day” celebration held on the banks of the Hakari River in Lachin, organized with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, and the Special Representative Office of the President in Lachin district. The head of state addressed the event.
It should be noted that the great victory won by Azerbaijan on the battlefield during the Patriotic War was also affirmed in the political arena, forcing Armenia to withdraw not only from Aghdam and Kalbajar but also from Lachin district.
In accordance with the trilateral statement signed after the Victory in the Patriotic War, Lachin district was returned to Azerbaijan on December 1, 2020. However, since the Lachin corridor passed through the city, Lachin remained under the temporary control of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
After the commissioning of the alternative road, on August 26, 2022, the Azerbaijani Army entered Lachin city and also took Zabukh and Sus villages under control, raising the Azerbaijani flag in Lachin city.
