President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Washington is of historical significance, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, said at the special session themed “The Washington Agreements: A Triumph of Peace Diplomacy and Wise Leadership,” held within the framework of the extraordinary session of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament), APA reports.
“President Ilham Aliyev visited the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump. Considering the agreements reached and the meetings held during the visit, we can confidently say that this visit holds historical significance. The most important qualities that distinguish great leaders are their principled stance, diplomatic skill, and courage. The Washington Agreements should be evaluated precisely in this context!” the Speaker emphasized.
Sahiba Gafarova noted that this visit should be characterized by the qualitative advancement of relations between Azerbaijan and the United States: “In this matter, President Trump's position based on peace and cooperation also played a significant role. The Washington Agreements should also be characterized as an event marking the logical conclusion of peace diplomacy by President Ilham Aliyev following the Patriotic War. The initialing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia embodies justice and fairness. This development opens new horizons for our region. As a logical continuation of the Washington Agreements, the implementation of the Zangezur corridor also holds historic significance. This corridor is set to reshape the transportation map of Eurasia, bringing substantial innovations to the region’s transport routes. Its designation as the “Trump Route” is no coincidence. In terms of establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus, the Washington Agreements were a decisive milestone."
