Today marks the 56th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev coming to power in Azerbaijan in 1969, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, said during today’s parliamentary session, APA reports.
The Speaker noted that the historic mission started by the National Leader is being continued today by President Ilham Aliyev: “Azerbaijan has become a state with influence over a vast geographic area of the world. The liberation of our territories from occupation has opened a new era of development for us.”
MP Azer Badamov noted that July 14 is a decisive date in the fate of the Azerbaijani people: “This date marks the starting point of a new era with the National Leader Heydar Aliyev coming to political power in Azerbaijan for the first time. The meaningful life of the Great Leader, dedicated to serving the people, and his immortal legacy are closely linked to the fate of our nation. President Ilham Aliyev, the bearer of Heydar Aliyev’s heritage and the one whom our people rely on in every hardship, participates in shaping the main contours of modern and future world history. Our people are confident that their only refuge is the Victorious Leader!”
Deputy Chairman of the Parliament’s Committee on Defense, Security and Anti-Corruption, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, stated that even today, when determining state policy, we must study and use Heydar Aliyev’s experience in state governance: “There is still much to learn from Heydar Aliyev. He was a great statesman. He was able to mobilize the Azerbaijani people to solve the most difficult problems facing our nation. Even when Azerbaijan faced foreign pressures, he managed to achieve national unity among our people.”
