It turns out ICRC plays umbrella role in defense of separatism and terrorism in the region – Azerbaijani MP

There isn’t any legal or humanitarian ground for International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to operate in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, MP of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) Bahruz Maharramov told APA.

"Recently, within the border control measures of the State Border Service, guided by the national and international legal acts, another illegality of the Red Cross, a participant in smuggling activities, has been revealed at the border crossing point of Lachin. This situation, which is incompatible with the Committee’s activity goals and creates a suspicion that there are weapons and ammunition that’s being smuggled to territory of Azerbaijan from Armenia reveals that ICRC does note play an umbrella role of humanitarian law but in the defense of separatism and terrorism. Moreover, the purposeful involvement of citizens and employees of countries that’s not friendly with Azerbaijan increases these suspicions. This shows that the ICRC has already exceeded its goals and limits and has violated its obligations on the legal basis between Azerbaijan and the organization".
