BAXCP holds its second congress

At first, congress delegates established chairmanship, mandate and accounting commissions and approved the congressâ€™s agenda, which included reports of partyâ€™s chairman, Supreme Majlis Chairman and Organizing Committeeâ€™s Chairman, election of new chairs of these bodies, approval of Supreme Majlis members and discussions on the 2008 presidential elections in Azerbaijan. BAXCP Chairman said in his report that the Government didnâ€™t provide them with opportunities to hold the congress and they had to hold it in the black-curtained cinema house. â€œThis black color is an indicator of oppositionâ€™s condition in Azerbaijanâ€, said the Partyâ€™s Chairman Gudrat Hasanguliyev. He said Azerbaijanâ€™s Government put forward the balanced foreign policy, bit it doesnâ€™t meet national interests. In his opinion, Azerbaijan should be Turkeyâ€™s military ally and join NATO. The Chairman said some international organizations didnâ€™t want to see Azerbaijan as a powerful and democratic country. â€œWestern countries are not interested in the solution of Nagorno Karabakh problem as much as Russia. It was confirmed during the voting of UN resolution on Nagorno Karabakhâ€. BAXCP Chairman spoke about the domestic situation in the country and said there was no cooperation environment between the political parties and international organizations take advantage in this situation. Hasanguliyev said boycotting of elections was not significant. The guests of the congress â€“ BQP Chairman Fazil Gazanfaroglu, YAP Deputy Executive Secretary Mubariz Gurbanli, AVP Chairman Fazail Agamali, GAT Chairman Akif Nagi, VAMBP Chairman Hajibaba Azimov, ACP Deputy Chairman Yagub Abbasov and others have also addressed the congress. After the speeches of Supreme Majlis and Organizing Committee the organizational issues were discussed.
Gudrat Hasanguliyev was unanimously re-elected the partyâ€™s chairman and Mikayil Rahimov was elected the chairman of Supreme Majlis. The congress discussed upcoming presidential elections in 2008 and considered it necessary to participate in the elections. Hasanguliyev was nominated from the party for presidency.
