Latif Huseynov: â€œOfficial status of Russian language in Azerbaijan cannot be a subject of discussionsâ€

This article of the Constitution cannot be voted in referendum or changedâ€, Latif Huseynov, chief of the State-Building Department of the Parliamentâ€™s Administration told APA, whilst speaking about the proposal of Chairman of Russian Dumaâ€™s Committee for compatriots living in CIS and near abroad Alexei Ostrovsky about the giving of official status to the Russian language in the post-Soviet countries. Huseynov said there was clear and univocal instruction in Article 155 of the Constitution and this issue could not be a subject of the discussions. Huseynov spoke about the impossibility of changing or dropping some articles of the Azerbaijanâ€™s Constitution. â€œArticles about the source of power, the form of government, unitary republic, presidential republic, as well as setting of Azerbaijani as an official language can not be voted in referendum in any case. The people determined these issues forever. I think all these are fateful issues for Azerbaijani people and stateâ€.
