Ali Orujov: â€œMost of ANIP members support participation in the electionsâ€

Baku. Elnur Mammadli-APA â€œSecretary General Fuad Mukhtarovâ€™s statements that Azerbaijan National Independence Party will boycott the presidential elections in fall this year is his personal view. This is not the position of the partyâ€, Press Secretary of Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP) Ali Orujov told APA. He said that there was a need to discuss this issue in the party, because there were supporters of participation and boycott in the party.
Ali Orujov said that after the annexes and amendments to the Electoral Code the situation changed in the country.
â€œIn this respect it is normal that some parties hesitate. I think that there is no need to boycott the elections. We should participate in the elections and make people more active. On the other hand boycott tactics was once used in Azerbaijan and was not successful. So, the opposition should cooperate to change the situationâ€, he said.
Ali Orujov said most of the party members support participation in the elections.
Acting Chairman of Azerbaijan National Independence Party Fuad Mukhtarov had told APA that he supported boycotting.
â€œAfter the Electoral Code was amended, the supporters of boycotting say more loudly that they were right. My personal view is that we should not participate in the election with this lawâ€, he said.
