69.7 per cent of Azerbaijani citizens to support Ilham Aliyevâ€™s candidacy for presidency <font color=red>â€“ POLL </font>

Baku. Ramil Mammadli-APA. Opinion Monitoring Center has announced the results of opinion polls â€œPresidential elections -2008â€. The opinion polls were conducted among 1400 respondents in 28 residential areas of the country, including Baku and Sumgayit cities, said Rizvan Abbasov, Chairman of the Center at the press-conference on Friday, APA reports. 69.7 per cent of the respondents said they would support Ilham Aliyevâ€™s candidacy for presidency. 56.2 per cent of the respondents think that Ilham Aliyev has no alternative in the presidential elections. To the question â€œWill the 2008 elections be democratic?â€ 43 per cent said â€œyesâ€ and 28 per cent said they supposed that the elections would be democratic. To the question â€œWhy the opposition cannot unite just for once?â€ 26 per cent said â€œIndividual ambitions tackle the oppositionâ€, 35 per cent â€“ â€œThere is no real opposition, they are tools in the hands of foreignersâ€, 12 per cent â€“ â€œThe Government plays to neutralize the oppositionâ€. Responding to the question â€œWhom will you support as an only candidate from opposition?â€ 10 per cent said they would support Lala Shovkat, leader of National Union Movemnet, 5 percent â€“ Isa Gambar, 4 â€“ Etibar Mammadov, 4- Eldar Namazov and 3 â€“ Rasul Guliyev.
