UK Minister for Europe: â€œNagorno Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijanâ€

Nagorno Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan. Both the United Kingdom and international community have accepted itâ€, said UK Minister for Europe and MP Jim Murphy on Wednesday at the press-conference in Baku. He evaluated his one-day visit to Baku as productive and useful and said he had discussed the ways of development of the Azerbaijani-British relations with President Ilham Aliyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov. The Minister said his country had great interest in Azerbaijan and appreciated the operating of more than 100 British companies in Azerbaijan as a result of this interest. â€œAlongside with its interest in the energy sector of Azerbaijan, the United Kingdom is interested in the Azerbaijanâ€™s integration into Europe and supports it on this way as well. We want Azerbaijan to develop democracy and Human Rightsâ€. The Minister said he had also discussed â€œNabuccoâ€ Project with Azerbaijani officials. He said Europe saw Azerbaijan as a balancing party in the international energy security.
Murphy said he had touched upon the issue of media freedom in his meetings in Baku and called media freedom as the important principle of the democracy. The Minister noted that he was hopeful for the fair and free presidential elections in Azerbaijan in October and added that his country would assist Azerbaijan in this field.
