Jean Paul Costa: “Azerbaijan’s national legislation has to take appropriate steps for filling of gaps in the attitude to European Convention”

APA reports, Ramiz Rzayev told journalists that Jean Paul Costa has met with the President of Azerbaijan, Parliament Speaker, Justice Minister and Chairman of the Constitutional Court on Friday, The President of European Court said he had optimistic thoughts on Azerbaijan’s future. “My visit to Azerbaijan arose from my intentions to establish close cooperation with government bodies. Azerbaijan chose democracy-building process and is in the transition period. European Court and Azerbaijan should closely cooperate to solve some problems in advance. I will make efforts for establishing of close relations with Azerbaijan. Reminding about 12 decisions of the European Court on Azerbaijan, Mr. Costa said his organizations would make more decisions on complaints from Azerbaijan. “I think these decisions will have a great impact on the national legislation”. He said ECHR made binding decisions on member-countries and precedent of the decisions have a serious impact on the national legislations of member-countries. He said Azerbaijan’s lawmaking body should take appropriate steps for filling gaps in Azerbaijan’s national legislation in its attitude to the European Convention. Speaking about the complaints of Azerbaijanis once lived in the Armenian-occupied Azerbaijani lands about Armenia, Jean Paul Costa said there were complaints on both Azerbaijan and Armenia which remained unresolved.
“I think such conflict should find its political solution in the level of two countries”.
