Azerbaijan’s Minister of Emergency Situations addresses the 11th Eurasian Economic Summit in Istanbul

Suleyman Demirel said poverty reached dangerous level and called on rich countries to take serious steps to eliminate poverty.
Mentioning that European Union was the strongest economic, welfare and peace project of the world Demirel said Turkey had been attempting to become member of the organization for 45 years and would achieve it.
Ex-president of Bulgaria Jelyu Jelev focused on environmental issues and demanded Russia to stop expeditions in the North Pole.
Ex-president of Romania Emil Constantinescu said Romania supported Turkey’s membership to EU. Suleyman Demirel expressed his gratitude to the members of Balkan political club - former presidents and prime ministers for supporting Turkey’s EU membership.
Azerbaijani Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov has also delivered speech at the event. He said rate of Azerbaijan’s economic development had no analogue in the world. “Azerbaijan’s reputation in the international arena is increasing and its integration into Europe and the World is accelerating. As a result of fundamental economic reforms carried out in the country, volume of economy increased by 96 per cent in comparison with 2003 and by 25 per cent in comparison with 2007. Regarding these economic indications and figures announced by the international organizations, Azerbaijan takes leading position in the world for its development rate in recent years”. The minister said poverty was reduced in the country from 49 per cent of 2003 to 16 per cent up to January 1, 2008. “Socio-economic reforms and right foreign policy made Azerbaijan a leading country of South Caucasus”. The minister said Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and Azerbaijani gas played important role in the European energy security. He has also said that Armenian occupying policy against Azerbaijan creates some obstacles on the way of integration into Europe. Touching upon the activity of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, the minister said they had suggested assistance to other countries for prevention of industrial states of emergency and lifting of their results.
Kamaladdin Heydarov said Azerbaijan would contribute to the Eurasian integration and global economic development within the equal partnership.
