Newly-appointed defense minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan was born in Shusha and received military education in Baku

Seyran Ohanyan was born in 1962 in Azerbaijani town of Shusha and graduated from the High School of Multi-Service Troop Commanders in Baku in 1983. He served in the Soviet troops deployed in the Democratic Republic of Germany and was sent to the South Caucasian military command in 1988. He was a battalion commander in the 366th regiment in Khankendi until April, 1992 and took an active part in the Khojali genocide. He was seriously wounded in the battles in September, 1992. Ohanyan was appointed chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces in 2007.
Newly-appointed foreign minister Edward Nalbandyan was born in 1956 in Armenia. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of International Relations in 1978 and post-graduate department of the Institute of Oriental Studies of USSR Academy of Sciences in 1988. He worked for the Soviet embassy in Libya in 1978-1983, Soviet foreign ministry in 1983-86. He was an adviser to the Soviet, later Russian Embassy in Egypt in 1986-1992 and Armenian charge d’ affairs in Egypt, Morocco and Oman. He was appointed Armenian ambassador to France in 1999 and took this post until now. He knows French, English and Arabic.
