Baku. Ulviyya Aliyeva-APA. “Today some international organizations are busy with the pressuring on the certain country rather than they have to do their work”, said Ali Hasanov, head of the Sociopolitical Department of the President’s Office, APA reports. He said Human Rights and Freedom of Speech were also among those issues. “Though representatives of international organizations spend more time to the discussions of such issues, we also have own opinions to express and own values to demonstrate”, said Ali Hasanov and expressed his opinion about the issue of political prisoners. To him, the issue of prisoners has been on the agenda since Azerbaijan became a member of the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan has taken commitments to the Council of Europe to review the cases of persons introduced as a political prisoners by NGOs, to pardon some of them and to ease their punishment. “Azerbaijan completely fulfilled this obligation. As the Government of Azerbaijan, we are not accepting the issue of political prisoners, because Azerbaijan has already entered the European legal space and it is under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights. Everyone in Azerbaijan can appeal to the European Court in case of dissatisfaction with the local court decision. If Azerbaijani citizen has this right, the issue of political prisoners remains as a fiction”.
