Russian TV channels curb in Azerbaijan discussed in Moscow conference “Azerbaijan 2008: toward development”

Moscow. Anara Akhundova-APA. Second section of the two-day conference entitled “Azerbaijan 2008: toward the development” organized by the Moscow Carnegie Center and Strategic Research Center under the President of Azerbaijan in Moscow completed its work on Friday. The current situation of Russian language in Azerbaijan has been discussed at the section, APA Russian Bureau reports. Speakers emphasized the functioning of Russian sectors in the Azerbaijani schools and activity of multiple Russian communities and Diasporas in the country. Denis Sammut, Executive Director of the British NGO LINKS, has analyzed the phases of economic development in Azerbaijan and also touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He urged the event participants, as well as the world community for the sensitive approach of the conflict. Curbing of Russian TV channels broadcast in Azerbaijan and bilateral political and cultural issues were also among the issues focused at the conference. The participants stressed the special respect to the rights of ethnic, religious and cultural minorities in Azerbaijan.
