YAP Executive Secretary: Knifing of â€œAzadligâ€ newspaper correspondent Agil Khalil is the next provocation

He said that freedom of speech and media was respected in Azerbaijan. This event is a blow on the freedom of speech and media. Ali Ahmadov said it was a provocation.
â€œIt is not right to blame the Azerbaijani authorities for it. There are insidious purposes behind this event. This provocation aimed at casting a shadow on Azerbaijani authorities. Both the authorities and media should find out who backs it,â€ he said.
Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov also took a stance on the correspondentâ€™s knifing. After Azerbaijani Government presented its annual report in todayâ€™s sitting of the Parliament, MP Panah Huseyn demanded the Parliament to express its position on Agil Khalilâ€™s knifing. Ogtay Asadov said the incident had been discussed. Criminal case has been launched on the fact, investigation is underway.
Director General of â€œAzadligâ€ newspaper Azer Ahmadov told APA that correspondent of â€œAzadligâ€ newspaper Agil Khalil had been transferred to the ward. According to him, the correspondent feels normal. He is secured by the police. Ahmadov also added that the representatives of the US Embassy, OSCE and the Council of Europe would visit the correspondent.
