The Americans will deliver proposals on confidence measures, allowing the presence of Russian officers at missile shield facilities in the Czech Republic and Poland, blocking the radar to prevent it being targeted at Russia.
Asked whether joint use of Gabala radar by Russia and the US would be discussed in Moscow meeting, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Jonathan Henick told APA that he had no information about it. He noted that the policy of the US aimed at multilateral cooperation.
“U.S. delegation visited Gabala radar in September last year and studied the potential of the radar. The issue on Gabala radar has not come to an end yet,” he said.
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed the visit of the U.S. State Secretary Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Robert Gates to Russia. The White House said the Presidents of Russia and the US Vladimir Putin and George Bush had a telephone talk a week ago and reached an agreement on the meeting.
“President Bush asked the Secretary of State and Defense Secretary to have discussions in Moscow on March 17-18,” White House representative said and added that U.S. intended to deploy elements of its missile shield in Czech Republic and Poland, as well as joint use of Azerbaijan-based Gabala radar would be discussed during the meeting.
