Elmar Mammadyarov and Robert Simmons discuss Azerbaijan-NATO relations

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has received Robert Simmons, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, the Ministry’s Press Service told APA. Satisfied with the level of cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov expressed his confidence that this cooperation would further continue. The minister said Azerbaijan’s participation in peacekeeping operations carried out in Afghanistan under NATO’s leadership was of special importance and said continuation of this cooperation was desirable. The minister also noted that the implementation of the second stage of International Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) would bring the relations between the two countries to a new stage.
Robert Simmons expressed his gratitude for the reception, briefed about the meetings within the framework of his visit to our country and said NATO attached great importance to the relations with Azerbaijan. He appreciated Azerbaijan’s participation in the peacekeeping operations under the NATO’s leadership. He noted that the first stage of IPAP had been implemented successfully and added that the second stage had already launched. The sides exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
