Ombudsman makes annual report in Azerbaijani Parliament

She noted that she received 33,660 appeals, as well as 7900 appeals in 2007. 95, 6 % of them are appeals and 4, 4 % covers infringement of rights. 39, 6 % of appeals envisage the human rights, 60, 4 % is a violation of economic and social rights. 47,6 % of appeals were executed and 40,6 was considered. 1148 appeals are linked with the judicial bodies, 318 with unfullfilment of court decisions, 430 with local executive powers, 233 with municipalities, 356 with prosecutor’s offices, 725 with police departments and other state authorities. Ombudsman noted that one of the problem caused anxiety was torture. Several appeals received by ombudsman cover various tortures undergone by officials of police departments and penitentiary service. Suleymanova stated that National Security Ministry’s investigatory isolation ward, MIA Office on Struggle against Organized Crime’s detention ward and Penitentiary Service’s investigation ward were monitored. Human Rights Commissioner said that she had met imprisoned journalist during this term. Then Ombudsman’s annual report was discussed.
