Azay Guliyev:â€Leyla Yunus produces political prisonerâ€

Baku. Ramil Mamedli-APA. â€œLeyla Yunus produces a political prisoner as if she has nothing to do. Such individuals shadow the human rightsâ€, President of National NGO Forum and member of the parliament Azay Guliyev told APA. According to him, the crimes of most people submitted by the director of the Institute of Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus to the international organizations as a political prisoner have been proved by concrete facts. He added that a part of those people was pardoned later. â€œThe Nation is pardoning convicted persons not depending on their identity. There is no politically motivated prosecution in Azerbaijan. It is not a secret that Azerbaijani courts have the problems. It is a violation of human rights, but not political prisonerâ€. Azay Guliyev said that the people dissatisfying with the court decision in Azerbaijan have an opportunity to appeal the European Human Rights Court. â€œAzerbaijani court system joined the jurisdiction of European Human Rights Court on April 15, 2002. The individuals dissatisfying with the local courts decision can protest it in this court and to defend their rights. It is legally impossible to submit such individuals as political prisoners. It is only Leyla Yunusâ€™s habitâ€. The Forum president condemned Leyla Yunus in the preconceived policy. â€œUnfortunately those, who assassinated a terrorist attack in the Baku Subway early in 1990s, were also included in her list. It is a result of political nature of her activity. The public condemnation has to play its role in this issueâ€. Director of the Institute of Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus is abroad and therefore her opinion related to this issue remained unclear.
