20 years pass since Armenians committed Sumgayit events in Azerbaijan
Armenians claim that Azerbaijanis committed Sumgayit events, but the facts show the opposite. Armenian separatists’ rallies in Khankendi demanding the unification of Karabakh with Armenia on February 13 paved the way for Sumgayit events. The Soviet of People’s Deputies of the Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast held an extraordinary session on February 20 and passed a decision on uniting Nagorno Karabakh with Armenia. On February 22 Nagorno Karabakh Azerbaijanis held a peaceful rally in Asgaran town, Armenians fired on them, as a result of it two Azerbaijanis were killed and 19 were wounded.
Facts prove that Sumgayit events were deliberately prepared by Armenians. First of all, Armenian Eduard Grigoryan headed the pogroms. The testimonies of the Armenians suffered from the events also prove it. For example, this is how Mejlumyan recalls the events:
“Grigoryan entered my flat and beat my mother with broken chair. I tried to show resistance to him but I can not because I was women .He knocked me down and began to do what he wanted,†she said.
“The gang organized by Armenian Grigoryan broke into house #512 of Armenian woman Emma. They undressed her immediately and Grigoryan offered her to go out. Emma was killed with the participation of him,†said Azerbaijani youth Najaf who witnessed the developments.
These facts show that Armenia wanted to achieve their goal at the cost of their countrymen.
Former USSR KGB chief Kruchkov confessed that these pogroms were organized by intelligences of official Moscow and Armenia.
Eduard Grigoryan was released from jail after several years who was sentenced to 12-year imprisonment and was a head and ideologist of these pogroms, Ahmad Ahmadov was sentenced to be shot who participated emotionally in the developments under influence of tragedies committed against Azerbaijanis in Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia, persons in the car who called Sumgait residents to kill Armenians and delivered free cigarette and drugs to youths were not determined, 4,000 Azerbaijanis who were displaced from their lands in western Azerbaijan have located in Sumgait purposefully and Kremlin and Armenia have played a great role in all these developments. Azerbaijani scientist and academician Ziya Bunyadov has proved by fact that, these pogroms were carried out in accordance with special scenario.
