“Musavat party served the government’s interests by submitting proposals on formation of election commissions to the parliament. Out of nine proposals eight keeps election commissions under the government’s control,” Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Deputy Chief Fuad Mustafayev told the APA. He said that Musavat activists want to turn the process into a conflict between the parties, and noted that he does not know what their aim is.
Mustafayev thinks that election commissions should be formed with participation of the ruling YAP (New Azerbaijan Party), Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Azerbaijan Democrat Party and Azerbaijan Liberal Party.
“If commissions are set up from the registered parties as Musavat proposes, the opposition parties close to the authorities will participate in the process and election commissions will be under the control of the authorities. We offer Musavat to reuse its position and accept the basis of the parity in the format suggested by us,” he said.
Deputy Chief of Musavat Mehman Javadoglu told the APA that the accusations of Azadliq alliance are groundless.
“Azadliq alliance’s activity is based on criticizing Musavat. I wonder if the alliance is in opposition to the authorities or to Musavat… Their actions show that hey in opposition with Musavat,” he said.
Javadoglu said that Musavat Party always wanted to form election commissions on the basis of parity and added that these proposals are useful both for the society and opposition. /APA/
