Extradition is possible only after the judgment comes effective. As long as his appeal is not considered, the verdict is a piece of paper, stated advocate Ikram Shirinov, representative of Ramil Seferov’s family in the court, in the press conference with Bar Association chief Azer Tagiyev, APA reports.
He said the essential aim of the defence side is to commute Ramil’s condition on basis of law, avoiding the errors made up to now. He said he hopes Appeals Court will consider the case fairly. He added that many errors had been made during the investigation.
“He was not explained his rights of refusing to speak. Hungarian Appeals Court has the right to grant, change or abolish the verdict and return the case to be reconsidered. We decided with Hungarian lawyers to try to achieve the abolishment and reconsideration of the verdict. We consider it expedient as Hungarian law allows it, he noted.
He said Ramil Safarov had got acquainted with the materials and court protocols and had taken 38-page notes. We have worked out amendments to our appeal on the basis of these notes. We plan to send those notes to Hungarian lawyers.
“We and Hungarian lawyers think the verdict is based more on subjective views than on concrete facts. Hopes for the objective consideration of the case in the Court of Appeals are more, he said.
Shirinov also noted that Azerbaijani lawyers of Ramil Safarov, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment by Budapest Court on April 13, 2006, got official permission to participate in the trail to commence on February 22. Chief of Azerbaijani Bar Association Azer Tagiyev gave information about his visits to this county at the invitation of Hungarian Bar Association. He said that during the visit he was informed about the history of Hungarian Lawyers institute, the normative acts regulating the activity of lawyers, and he gave information about the development of this field in Azerbaijan. The sides came to agreement on the development of bilateral relations and continue exchange of experience. Tagiyev invited the chief of Hungarian Bar Association Janosa Banati to Azerbaijan. The lawyer has received the invitation. Tagiyev said that legal reforms and the situation of the lawyers serve to the interest of the Hungarian lawyers. /APA/
