Baku-APA. Belarus is against one-sided interpretation of international law with respect to the Crimea referendum, Belarusian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday, pledging to make every possible effort to help Ukraine and Russia restore their fraternal relations, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"Today we are deeply concerned about the attempts by some politicians, who are in fact far from the developments in the region, to decide what is good and what is bad for our Slavic peoples," the ministry said in a statement.

"Given the current reality, the Republic of Belarus opposes the one-sided, partial interpretation of the international-law principles in favor of the geopolitical interests and attempts to claim the uniqueness of some international situations and territories while ignoring others," the ministry stressed.

"Theorizing on this subject today means driving the problem into a deadlock," it added.

According to the ministry, Belarus will make whatever efforts necessary to help find possible solutions to all the current differences and prevent a forcible standoff.

Belarus, Russia and Ukraine are fraternal nations deeply intertwined historically and economically, it said.

An overwhelming 96.77 percent of Crimeans voted in favor of joining Russia on Sunday in a referendum, which the West denounced as illegal and breaching the international law. Russia said the plebiscite was legitimate and completely matched historical justice.
