Japan’s ambassador to Moscow has been protested over Tokyo’s plans to use revenue from frozen Russian assets to assist Ukraine, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports citing the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It was stated that on April 22, a meeting took place at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs between L. Vorobyova, Director of the Third Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and A. Muto, Japan’s ambassador to Moscow.
During the discussion of the state of bilateral relations, a strong protest was expressed to the Japanese side regarding the intention to use revenue from illegally frozen Russian state assets to provide loans to Ukraine within the framework of the G7 financial aid package.
It was emphasized that such a step by official Tokyo would result in severe retaliatory measures, including asymmetric actions, in areas most sensitive to the Japanese side.
It was noted that in such a case, full responsibility for the further deterioration of bilateral relations would rest entirely with the Japanese government.
