Russian Foreign Minister: We have not sent and will not send arms to the Syrian Government
According to APA’s Moscow correspondent, Lavrov noted that information about changing Russia’s position on the Syrian conflict baseless, "This is a very dangerous game. Russia knows who is involved in this game. There are great large forces trying to disrupt the Annan plan on resolving the Syrian conflict. We know who is behind these efforts. We know why these forces do not want to be in Syria and the region, including no stability. These forces want to turn Syria into an arena of struggle of the Islamic world. Because the Syrian conflict will lead to war between Shiites and Sunnis in the region", - he said.
Lavrov said that Russia will not allow this to happen: "We do not support the Syrian regime. We support international law and stability in the Islamic world".
The Minister commented on the provision of information on Russian weapons Syrian regime. "There are information about the Assad regime providing arms and materiel from Russia. Allegedly, thus destroying weapons of the Syrian regime civilians. It’s all lies. We have not sent and will not send weapons to the Syrian government. Some time ago, according to the agreement signed between the two countries, we sold the Syrian air defense system. Besides, nothing was sent. On the contrary, the Western forces are responsible for "the Syrian army free" weapons and materiel. At the Istanbul conference of Syrian businessmen have been suggested to create a fund to support ‘the Syrian army free’", - Lavrov said.
Lavrov stressed that Russia is not against the repetition of the scenario in Syria, Yemen."Yemen has all gone in a different scenario. President resigned. This resignation took place after negotiations with the opposition to the current regime. If this happens in Syria, we will support it. But in Syria, external forces prevent the meeting of the negotiating table, and the opposition of the current regime. External players do not want that between the Syrian government and the opposition has been created environment of dialogue. We conducted this purpose, a conference in Moscow to Syria. Objective - to ensure dialogue between the parties", - Russian FM Sergey Lavrov said.
