Baku-APA. The 20th round of security talks between Russia and Georgia concluded here on Friday, with representatives from both sides agreed to hold further discussions concerning the security of the region in the future, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The two sides reviewed the developments on the ground and noted with serious concern the postponement of meetings of the Gali Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).

In terms of the Non-Use of Force and International Security Arrangements, based on contributions by the participants, the issue remains open for the next session.

Other issues discussed during the meeting included the humanitarian situation, which focused on the needs and challenges of displaced persons and vulnerable populations, education and cultural heritage preservation.

Internationally mediated Geneva discussions between Russia and Georgia was launched as a result of an agreement between the former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on September 2008, following the armed conflict between Russia and Georgia over the issue of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The first round of discussion convened on October 15, 2011, while the next session is scheduled to be held on October 3, 2012.
