Indices in the US and European stock markets closed with a decline, APA-Economics reports, citing stock exchange data.

The main indices in the US stock markets - the Dow Jones Industrial Average - decreased by 0.51%, the S&P 500 - by 1.07%, and the Nasdaq Composite - by 1.69%. The NYSE Composite Index decreased by 0.50%, and the S&P/TSX Composite Index - by 0.42%. At the end of the trading session, the Dow Jones was at 48,458.05, the S&P 500 at 6,827.41, the Nasdaq Composite at 23,195.17, the NYSE Composite at 22,004.35, and the S&P/TSX Composite at 31,527.39 points.

A decline was also observed in the European stock markets. The Euro Stoxx 50 index fell by 0.58%, the FTSE 100 by 0.56%, the DAX by 0.45%, the CAC 40 by 0.21%, and the IBEX 35 by 0.17%. At the end of the session, the Euro Stoxx 50 was at 5,720.71, the FTSE 100 at 9,649.03, the DAX at 24,186.49, the CAC 40 at 8,068.62, and the IBEX 35 at 16,854.40.

Market participants noted an increase in sales of technology and large-cap stocks against the backdrop of short-term profit-taking and risk-aversion trends. Annual indicators show that double-digit growth is still maintained for the main indices.

Analysts said the market decline was due to profit-taking after high price increases, expectations that monetary policy will remain tight, and a strengthening global risk aversion. Increased selling in technology and interest rate-sensitive stocks, as well as uncertainties related to geopolitical and energy markets, caused investors to take a cautious stance.
