The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has temporarily suspended the membership of the Russian Chess Federation, APA reports, citing FIDE's press service.
According to the statement, the organization's Council made this decision because the Russian Chess Federation failed to comply in a timely manner with the requirements set by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Under the CAS ruling, the Russian Chess Federation was required to cease all activities in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as well as Crimea, within 90 days.
FIDE stated that due to the failure to fulfill these requirements, the federation's membership has been temporarily suspended.
