Baku-APAThe United Arab Emirates state security court on Tuesday issues verdict on 15 defendants accused of joining and funding the terrorist cells Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Ahrar Al Sham Movement, APA reports quoting the UAE WAM state news agency.

The UAE security court, a division of the Federal Supreme Court, was presided over by Judge Mohammed Al Jarrah Al Tenaiji. He issued sentences ranging from life imprisonment to acquittal.

The court also ordered the confiscation of a seized gun, electronic gadgets, the closure of the website run by the first defendant sentenced to 15 years in prison, and a fine of 1 million Dirhams. The convicted foreigners will be deported once they finish serving their sentences.

The court issued the sentences after reviewing the case facts, all related documents, investigations, hearing the defendants, the public prosecution, and viewing the evidence and experts' reports.

The court charged the defendants with joining, funding and transferring money to Jabhat Al Nusra and Ahrar Al Sham Movements, two al-Qaida subsidiaries outside of the UAE.

In addition the charges included manufacturing illegal explosives and polluting the environment through the detonation of dangerous and banned materials. Jabhat Al Nusra is actively fighting in the Syrian civil war against the Syrian government.

Since 2011, when the political scene erupted in some countries in the Middle East, the UAE, a major oil supplier, has been issuing sentences of multi-year jail terms in a regular clampdown to over 100 local and foreign al-Qaida members as well as the illegal Muslim brotherhood.

They are accused of planning terror attacks in the Gulf states and of working to overthrow the ruling government.
