Baku-APA. The Syrian regime on Wednesday carried out “barrel-bomb” attacks in the northern Aleppo province, killing at least 18 people, according to opposition sources, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

In a statement, the Syrian Revolution General Commission said a Syrian military helicopter had dropped four barrel bombs on the village of Al-Bureij near Aleppo’s Daesh-controlled city of Al-Bab.

The Istanbul-based commission is an umbrella group of Syrian political and media groups opposed to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Scores of people, the commission asserted, had been injured in Wednesday’s barrel-bomb attack.

Barrel bombs are improvised explosives typically consisting of barrels filled with explosive material, shrapnel, oil or chemicals, which are usually dropped from army helicopters.

According to the UN, more than 220,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in 2011 between pro-regime forces and heavily armed opposition groups.
