Four foreign workers killed in shop house fire in Singapore

Baku-APA. Four foreign workers were killed and eight injured after a fire broke out at a shop house unit on Saturday, APA reports quoting Channel NewsAsia.

The fire broke out at the center of the unit at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force ( SCDF). Thick black smoke can be seen on the ground and local residents said the unit was used as a dormitory for foreign workers from different countries. The nationalities of the workers were not yet disclosed.

The fire was put off in about half an hour, SCDF officers said, adding that the unit might have housed more people than legally allowed.

Three people, who went unconscious were later pronounced dead on the scene. Among the nine injured, one died later in hospital.

Investigation is still underway.
