Baku-APA. The Syrian Presidency has posted a photo on its official Instagram feed of Syria’s embattled President Bashar al-Assad as seen posing with a Turkish woman giving him a flag on which a Turkish Communist Party (TKP) slogan symbolized with Turkey’s summer protests written, APA reports quoting Turkish media.
Umut Kıraç from Turkish Communist Party (TKP), who visited Assad as part of a delegation of Women’s International Democratic Federation (WIDF) on Tuesday, is seen in the photo giving Assad the flag with “Boyun EÄŸme” (Do Not Surrender) slogan written on it.
It became popular when protesters hanged a large flag with the same slogan on top of the Atatürk Cultural Center facing the Ä°stanbul’s famed Taksim Square, origin and flashpoint of summer protests. It also drew Ankara’s anger when German magazine Der Spiegel featured the slogan as the headline of its 10-page cover story in Turkish.
