6.9 magnitude quake reported to have hit Myanmar

Baku-APA. Northeast Myanmar was hit by an earthquake of 6.9 magnitude Wednesday evening, according to the U.S Geological Survey, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

The tremor struck 100 km north-northwest of Monywa town in Saigain division, it said.

Local media reported that people in many areas of the country felt the earthquake, however there were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties.

 

An Anadolu Agency correspondent observed people running out of their apartments in commercial capital Yangon as the tremor struck, while The Times of India reported tremors in India's neighboring northeast, in West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Orissa and Jharkhand.

 

Authorities are currently carrying out enquiries as to any damage or injuries countrywide.
