12 killed, 25 injured in bomb blast in NW Pakistan

Baku-APA. At least 12 people were killed and 25 others injured on Friday afternoon as a bomb blast hit a main market of Pakistan's northwest tribal region of Lower Orakzai, local media reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Local Urdu TV Channel Express News, quoting official sources, reported that the bomb was planted on the roadside near a security checkpost in the main bazaar of Kalaya area in Lower Orakzai.

Earlier reports said that the incident took place in Hangu, but actually it occurred in the neighboring restive tribal region of Lower Orakzai, one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal regions in northwest Pakistan.

The bomb exploded with a big bang and destroyed many shops located nearby, killing five on the spot and leaving 32 others injured.

Security forces, police and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the hospital where seven of the injured succumbed to their injuries.

There was no reports of whether any of the security personnel was killed or injured in the explosion.

Majority of the killed and injured people were the member of pro-government and anti-Taliban peace militia "the Ferozkhel tribes" who had gathered there for some meeting.

According to the bomb disposal squad, the blast was carried out with a remote-controlled device and around five kilograms of explosives along with shrapnel were used in the bomb.

Security forces launched a wide range search operation in the area to arrest the miscreants who detonated the bomb.

No group or militant organization has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
