U.S. President Donald Trump is planning to attend the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7–8, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with Bloomberg TV during his visit to Singapore, APA's Türkiye bureau reports.
According to him, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held several phone conversations with Trump last month, and Trump stated during each of those calls that he would attend the summit.
The minister stressed that despite political rhetoric, the United States remains committed to NATO and there are no signs that it is preparing to leave the alliance.
He added that Washington is demanding that its allies increase defense spending, while European countries have already begun taking steps in this direction.
