An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 struck New Zealand's North Island on Friday, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), APA reports.
The quake was recorded at a depth of eight kilometers at 1:57 pm UTC. Its epicenter was registered 167 kilometers from New Zealand's city of Hamilton, the seat and most populous city of the country's Waikato region, which has a population of over 192,000.
There were no initial reports of casualties or material damage following the earthquake.
