Turkmenistan sets election for Feb.11

The president elections in Turkmenistan will be held on February 11, 2007, APA reports. People’s Council passed this decision in the meeting held in Ashgabat. The council made amendments to the constitution of the country. According to the changes it is necessary for the candidate to get one 1/3 votes of 2 507 members of the council. The representatives of the government and chiefs of the regions began to name their candidates. First Secretary of Democrat party Onjik Musayev nominated Gurbangulu Berdymukhammedov’s candidate. The observers consider him to have good chance. It should be noted that, the released news said that the acting president can not be the candidate due to the constitution.
Niyazov’s bank account in “Deutche Bank� was frozen. German bank considered it immediately after president’s death. Kakajan Atayev said that as the president died, his account is frozen until his heir is not found. /APA/
