Palestinians not to give up UN status upgrade: official

Baku-APA.Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said hear Monday that the Palestinians will not stop their efforts to apply to the United Nations this month for a nonmember- state status, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Erekat said during a press conference in Amman, "We will not give up our efforts for UN membership regardless of the pressures we are facing."

Erekat made his remarks after Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman.

Abbas and Arabi discussed measures to be taken at different levels as the Palestinians are pursuing to upgrade their status at the United Nations to a non-member state.

For his part, Arabi said it is time for the Palestinians to have their membership at the United Nations upgraded.

Also on Monday, Abbas met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and discussed the Palestinian National Authority’s efforts to seek the status upgrade at the United Nations.
