Gunmen fire at police convoy escorting foreign journalists, killing a captain

Baku-APA. An armed group opened fire at a police convoy escorting foreign journalists near the Syrian capital of Damascus on Wednesday, killing a police captain, state- run SANA news agency reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

It said the firing took place when the convoy was escorting a group of Italian journalists who were on their way back to Damascus from Daraa province.

Other media reported that two improvised explosive devices ripped through the police escort, killing a police officer and injuring three others along with an journalist.

Sources were quoted as saying that the Italian journalist, Claudio Acholi, was slightly injured.

A number of foreign journalists have been the victims of in Syria’s 16-month-old unrest, some of whom had died and others injured. The country has also witnessed an infiltration attempts by journalists, who have sought to enter Syria illegally to avoid tough restrictions.
