Baku-APA. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday decided to drop plans to build a nuclear power plant, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Netanyahu made the move to cancel the Israel Electric Corporation plant, in the wake of the fast-spreading nuclear reactor radiation in Japan, Israel Radio said.

The prime minister is scheduled to attend a ministerial committee meeting on national preparedness for earthquakes, according to Army Radio.

The risks of a major nuclear disaster following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan last Friday, have led Israelis to examine its own nuclear facility.

Israeli lawmakers have started debating the implications and lessons from Japan for Israel’s nuclear facilities, mainly the nuclear reactor in Dimona in the southern Negev desert.
