’Iran won’t negotiate over nuclear rights’
On Tuesday in New York, Ambassador Mohammad Khazaei told Press TV that the talks with the P5+1 group — Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States, and Germany — will focus on political, security, economic, and energy issues in the region and on the international level.
The next round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 group will be held in Istanbul on January 21 and 22.
Khazaei said, “In our view, the general talks was a positive step in negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and 5+1. As we have repeated, Iran is ready to engage in serious and fruitful negotiations.â€
The ambassador also noted that Iran is ready to help the world advance efforts for non-proliferation and disarmament, adding that negotiations should be an opportunity to create a “roadmap†for future cooperation.
He stated, “We believe that cooperation will promote peace and stability in the region,†adding that Iran is a regional power and can help the region in issues such as the campaigns against terrorism and drug trafficking and efforts to maintain economic stability.
“I hope and we believe that serious and constructive negotiations without preconditions and based on justice and mutual respect is the only solution, and we think it would be a win-win strategy and situation for both sides,†Khazaei stated.
Although the envoy expressed hope for a positive outcome in the comprehensive talks, he said that Iran would not bow to any political or economic pressure or threats.
In fact, Iran is prepared to respond accordingly to any misjudgment or pressure, but hopefully such a situation will not arise, he added.
