Iran to hold intl. cartoon contest

Baku-APA. Artists from more than 60 countries have submitted their works to take part in the third edition of Iran’s City Complexities Cartoon Contest, APA reports quoting Press TV.

“Expansion of cities, air pollution, traffic and street children are some of the topics presented in the participants’ artworks,” said director of Iran’s House of Cartoon Masoud Shojaei-Tabatabaei.

Cartoon is an influential international language and “topics of the contest are about the complexities and problems in most of the big cities and the artists have a good understanding of them,” added.

Some 1,274 works have been submitted to the event from which 767 cartoons from 62 countries have been selected by the jury board and put on the website of Iran’s House of Cartoon (irancartoon.ir).

Some 164 of the selected cartoonists are Iranian, while Turkey with 52, Indonesia with 41, and China and Brazil with 35 selected artists hold the following rankings, IRNA reported.

The first three winners of the contest will receive 2,000 USD, 1,500 USD and 1,000 USD respectively, Shojaei-Tabatabaei announced adding that 10 artists will also be granted the honorary diploma of the event.

The selection committee members of the contest were Abolfazl Mohtarami, Firouzeh Mizaffari and Bahram Arjmandnia from Iran, Valeriu Kurtu from Germany, Xia Lichuan from China and the Canada-based Iranian cartoonist Touka Neyestani.

The selected works of Iran’s 2011 City Complexities Cartoon Contest will be displayed at the Arasbaran Cultural Center and Iran’s House of Cartoon in the capital city of Tehran.
