Gunmen release abducted school principal in S Philippines

Baku-APA. A school principal who was kidnapped by gunmen in southern Philippines last month was freed late Tuesday, local authorities said Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Celia Sosas was released by her kidnappers in Lamitan town, in Mindanao region’s restive island-province of Basilan, said Vice Governor Al Rasheed Sakalahul.

According to Sakalahul, Sosas, principal of Baas village elementary school, was freed after over a month after she and another female teacher, Merlyn Yacapin, were seized Nov. 15 near the school. A joint police-military operation launched after the abduction rescued Yacapin in the nearby town of Tuburan.
